After the sad news of the recent death of the wonderful Colombian artis Fernando Botero I watched on RTVE a very impressive documentary on his life and work.
I was inspired by one phrase that he said : " A good artist looks for solutions, but a great artist looks for problems"
I am not a great artist, far from it. I am not even a real artist but Botero got me thinking about how I have been looking for problems a lot of the time in my work. It is difficult to paint on the textured surfaces of reycled materials, but above everything it is very hard and time consuming to create an image on a 3D irregular structure. It would be so much easier to paint it on a flat canvas. I suppose the kick I get when I finnish the piece and the image I painted comes into focus compensates for the hard work involved in the creation.
Another minor (major) problem I create formy self is storing. My 3D pieces end up occupying a lot of space. Thankfully my house-studio is quite large but one day I will run out of room. Maybe then, I will turn to writting poetry.
